3/20/2008 - Six Maladies now on SALE at CDBaby

So go get it.

This release is made possible by the pervasive, venerable Compact Disc format that was first popularized in the late 1980s. We're still trying to figure out what These Damn Kids are doing nowadays, so stay tuned for news of a more modern, less meatspace kind of release.

3/16/2008 - Eviction Studios: true to its name

Once again, the forces of chaos descend upon Tricycle Thief, even as the Minnesota weather finally shows some signs of mercy. The powers that be have seen fit to increase the rent at our studio to levels that can only be described as an epic disaster, and so we have vanished -- in the dead of night -- like so many impoverished ninja. (Lease? What's a lease?) And so our roughly 2 tons of derelict, mostly unused equipment hangs in limbo. And by "limbo," we mean "Geoff and Alicia's basement."

Send good vibes to Mitch and Joan as they search for a suitable replacement, and perhaps even something more...

So farewell, Busted-Ass Totally Not Up To Code Paranoid Asian Grocery Distributor Warehouse Space! We leave you with indifferent, slightly traumatic memories, and a hastily vacuumed floor.

11/13/2007 - Picking up the pace

Now that I've had a chance to catch my breath, I feel free to tell you all that our triumphant CD release show was a rousing success. Never mind how we define success (it's modest, but not unreasonably so), we had a great time, sold some CDs, played a satisfying show, and a good time was undoubtedly had by all.

And like freakin' lightning (thanks to our intrepid booking agent *couch*Mitch*cough*), we have a couple of new shows lined up! Check them out RIGHT NOW.

10/18/2007 - Something is stirring...

To all the peaceful people,

I am sitting in a coffee shop in Saint Paul that is blasting 80's rock through the ceiling, sipping my fair trade coffee, and watching the bright yellow and orange leaves dripping from the trees over Grand Avenue. I find that I am shaking my head at the thought that in a matter of weeks snow could be here to cover up all the scum, and to mark the end of another season. Time has gone fast… I'm not even sure how long its been since I've last emailed you, but even if you remember me with the fondness of Spam - I feel a little bit nostalgic about sending you this email. (Just now Queen's "We are the Champions" washes over me). Somehow this reminds me that amid the peaceful quietude of fall there needs to be a little noise, and in fact new noise is the entire reason that I am writing to you now. Are you ready for it? Deep breath:

Tricycle Thief has emerged from the dank, dirty, and somewhat fishy clutches of Eviction Studios to announce that we are preparing to release our debut album entitled, Six Maladies!

Yes it is true, the fact that Tricycle Thief has dropped completely off the radar for however long has nothing to do with us ceasing to exist or any supernatural phenomenon. Instead we made a conscious choice to cease all regular band activity in order to go all in and push this project out to all open and willing ears. As I mentioned the album is called Six Maladies, and it was produced, written, recorded, and mixed entirely by the band. (This is as independent as it gets folks!) We sent the project off to the most excellent Greg Reirson @ Rare Form Mastering who did the final work on the project and we are very pleased with it. I think that it is everything that you would expect from a debut Tricycle Thief release and much much more. It's gritty, digable, and visually excellent as well. Just wait until you see the fatty artwork that Sam (drummer) laid down on this joint - you may crap yourself. The album is currently being printed and will be available to those who seek it out by the end of the month. We are currently in phase two of this massive project which is to update our hideously out of date webpage and myspace page so bear with us. This will be done as quickly as we can scramble and all things going as planned people will be able to purchase the album directly through us, off of our webpage/myspace, and of course at upcoming shows. It will very possibly be available off of i-Tunes music store in time, I will let you know more as things develop. This also means that the band will be getting back into the swing of things and will begin playing gigs around the Twin Cities Metro Area in support of Six Maladies. I will update you on any upcoming gigs as they arise. As with most things Tricycle Thief, we have very modest plans for this album, but it has been a labor of love for us and considering the time and resources we have put into it, it would be a shame if no one got a chance to hear it. That being said any love that you feel inclined to focus toward us would be greatly appreciated. Whether that means getting in touch with us about purchasing the album, coming to see us play, passing us on to a friend, or dropping us a line, we would love it! Well, I will sign off with that. We hope to see/hear from you all very soon.

Much love,

Mitch

6/1/2007 - Still alive.

Yes, we're still alive, and if you're truly here reading this after so many months of inactivity on tricyclethief.org, we are also simulataneously impressed, grateful, and kind of frightened by your vigilance!

We're not doing much of anything now except finishing up our EP, which we talk about a lot but never seems to actually pop (kicking and screaming) into existence the way it should. But now that Geoff's wedding is behind us, things may just start rolling again. And we promise we'll keep you more posted than we have lately. Seriously.

1/2/2007 - Quick Update

Hey, all -- just a quick update on the show coming up this Friday. We've gotten the lineup confirmed now:

Sets are 45 minutes a whack, cover is $5, and enojyment is all but mandatory. Music starts at 9:30. Hope to see you there!

11/5/2006 - Big V's show! (rescheduled!)

On Friday, January 5th, the Thief returns triumphantly home to Big V's. Both we and Big V (Christensen?) himself are hoping for a great show this December, so we'd be much obliged if you'd put us on your calendars. Big V's has been incredibly kind to grace us with weekend shows, which is exactly what we need. Turns out that what *they* need in return is to sell absolute shitloads of booze, which is something that I, for one, am more than happy to help them with. So -- who is with us?! Bring your friends, bring your enemies, bring everyone you've spoken to in passing for the past month or so. I hear there'll be some decent music. And booze. January 5th.

In other news, progress is good on our first ever studio EP. We hope to have something serious to show you very early in the new year. If we manage to finish it before then, expect jubilant news postings in this very spot.
